Hidden away in Wilderness Park, located in Prattville, is a beautiful bamboo forest.

Many areas of this park have bamboo stalks as tall as 60 feet, and with a trunk diameter of 6 inches. Besides bamboo, several other varieties of plants can be found within the forest, including Alabama’s second largest beech tree.

The landowner in 1940s had a passion for exotic plants. So he purchased some bamboo seeds and planted 26 acres of bamboo. It just took off and keeps growing.

Wilderness Park Short Hike is a 0.3 mile loop trail that is primarily used for hiking and walking and is accessible year-round. The trails do extend into the forest if you prefer to hike longer.

As you walk around the pond you can enjoy the sounds of the frogs and birds.
