Surrounded by nine acres of gardens planted with more than 70,000 arid-resistant plants and trees, is Sunnylands Center & Gardens, open to the public free from Thursday through Sunday, offering visitors information about the history and cultural significance of Sunnylands, the historic mid-century modern estate that was the winter residence of Ambassadors Walter and Leonore Annenberg.
Visitors to Sunnylands can enjoy a variety of free public programs, guided gardens walks, changing exhibitions, a selection of 20th century sculpture from the Sunnylands collection, films and multi-media kiosks.
Connecting to the materials of the Estate, the perimeter of the garden is secured by a series of iconic pink masonry unit walls and sturdy Texas Ebony trees to protect the gardens from desert wind and blowing sand.
Every week an experienced birder leads a group of visitors through the Gardens for a 60 minute informational walk. https://sunnylands.org/event/free-center-bird-walk-1/
