The City of Clayton had a population of 7 and was founded in 1881 as a smelter site for the nearby mines.

The Clayton silver mines are still active and are some of the oldest mines in Idaho to remain in operation.
Clayton is located on State Highway 75, between Stanley and Challis.

If you’re traveling along the salmon river/hwy 75 to stop; take a look around; appreciate this quaint small town.
